Hey there my fellow #ChangeMakers,

What an amazing week it has been in our fight to advance gender equality! When I was a young girl, though I hoped and dreamed it might one day be possible, I wasn’t sure if I would ever see a woman marching successfully toward the Presidency. Now, after a Democratic primary that presented us with two compelling candidates, both of whom set forth impassioned ideas about how to equalize opportunity in this country, a woman has become the presumptive nominee. And, as Hillary Clinton acknowledged in her speech Tuesday night, her nomination stands on the shoulders of the many women who came before her—women who’d had enough and who stood up, marched, protested and fought to assure we had an equal voice in this country and in this world. Women who believed in more than words. Women who took action.

Also this week, we learned that sometimes our most impactful actions can come after our words have been ignored. Hopeful that the judge would do the right thing when sentencing her assailant after a jury’s unanimous guilty verdict, a survivor of sexual assault taught us all a lesson in courage. She showed us what can happen when we have the courage to stand and fight. Her actions sparked a movement, one in which thousands of people have come together to declare that “enough is enough.” Because of her, and the many other women who have fought to assure that their voices are heard in a justice system that has largely ignored them, we are seeing an awakening that I truly believe will result in longterm, impactful change. As I said … An Amazing Week! And all because of women like you who have come to understand the power of our own voices, our own actions. Thank you, #ChangeMakers. Let's keep it up.

xo,
Wendy
This week's historic first in the Presidential race was preceded by another incredible #ChangeMaker. Shirley Chisholm was the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. She was also the first major-party African American candidate for President. That was 1972 -- 44 years ago. Chisholm was a true trailblazer, as the first African American woman elected to Congress in 1968. We stand on the shoulders of giants.
