Hello #ChangeMakers!

This week, we join our allies at It’s On Us for their Fall Week of Action to be a part of the solution to stop sexual assault. Their Week of Action, of course, could not have come at a more needed moment given the conversations that so many of us are having about sexual assault due to the prominence of that issue in the current presidential campaign.

While this has been a painful week for sexual assault survivors, re-opening old wounds and triggering feelings of renewed trauma, it has also been a week of empowerment. I see and hear it everywhere I look – women stepping forward and sharing their stories in record numbers, calling out a culture of sexual exploitation. Naming it. Shaming it. And thereby helping to end it.

Each of us owns a role in becoming part of the solution. As our link below on “bystander” responsibility illuminates, intervening is about more than reacting to a potential assault, it’s about challenging and changing the cultural norms that make sexual assault acceptable. That’s what I see happening this week, and it is a powerful step in motivating the conversations and actions needed to reframe our tolerance of sexualized bias and violence against women.

So, my wonderful #ChangeMakers, #ItsOnUs to build the environment we want to see – one in which words like those we’ve heard this week are not tolerated – whether on college campuses, the workplace or elsewhere. To help get you started, we’ve outlined a few deeds below.

Please read, view, and learn more about what constitutes assault. Lastly, pound the pavement (or your keyboard) to do something in your community to engage more allies in the movement to end #rapeculture. We look forward to sharing a future with you where women feel safe and respected.  You all are amazing, and I thank you in advance for your work to make that future a reality.

xo,
- Wendy
