Happy Holidays #ChangeMakers!

Things have felt pretty dark for many of the causes that we care about, but this week we take a break from that to celebrate light. Whether it’s the light of your tree, a menorah, or a morning you wake up to without an alarm because of a few days off work, I hope you relish the brightness of spirit that accompanies this season.

Please know that it is your spirit that has carried me through this year. When I founded Deeds Not Words this past Spring, I never could have expected the roller-coaster ride we’ve all been on since. But in light of what now seem like daily blows to our rights as women, I feel this work is needed more than ever. And your willingness to carry the torch as our next generation of activists and advocates has blown me away.

We’ve accomplished a lot together already and next week I’m excited to send a bit of a highlight reel for what that looked like. But this week, I’m keeping it short and sweet so you (and I!) can spend less time in front of the computer screen and more time with our family and friends where we belong.

Before you run off to your holiday parties or family meals, I’m asking for one simple ‘Do’ this week: give the gift of change.

In past Digests, you’ve learned about the Nest Foundation’s curriculum and how it’s giving young women the knowledge they need to avoid sex trafficking. The young activists of the Ann Richards School highlighted in the video above are ramped up and ready to translate that knowledge into action, and we at Deeds Not Words are committed to making that happen.

They rocked the panel of an event we hosted here in Austin and, with our training, will be making major waves next year at the Texas State Legislature where they’ll advocate for prevention programs to combat sex trafficking. But they need your help! Their campus is just one of the many that we will be working with next year throughout the country to create meaningful legislative impact.  How inspiring is that?

So this holiday, let’s channel our fear, frustration and anger at the Grinches we’ve faced this past year into actionable change. Please consider joining us with an end of year gift to help us continue and expand our ability to make that possible. Your heart will grow three sizes, I guarantee it!

My granddaughter Ellis, a next generation #ChangeMaker, and I wish you a holiday filled with the joy and love of family!

Your support means the world to all of us at Deeds! We look forward to turning more passion into action in 2017. And, with your help, I know we will.

Love to you all,
- Wendy
