Just days ago we celebrated something remarkable. Throughout the country incredible candidates stepped forward in the recent midterm election and won, laying the groundwork to make change possible. YOU were an important part of that too, whether as a campaign staffer, a donor and/or as a volunteer, YOU made possible what happens when we all come together and do our part to challenge the status quo and change the face of power.
But change isn’t just about getting the right people elected to office. REAL CHANGE comes when we continue our collective efforts and work to support legislative policies that better reflect our values.
Here at Deeds Not Words, that’s what we do best. And that’s why we are thrilled with your participation in our work. With our 17 chapters at high schools and colleges across the state, you are ready to hit the ground running in the 2019 legislative session. Armed with your passion for making positive change, you’ll show up in the halls of power, supported by our advocacy training and day-to-day guidance, to make your desire for legislative change a reality.
In the last legislative cycle, you, #Changemakers, were an instrumental part of the passage of 7 bills into law. This session you’ll be championing an aggressive pro-active agenda that includes efforts to expand voting access, to curb maternal mortality, to adopt menstrual equity policies and to continue improvements to sexual assault policies. You’ll also be an important part of defending against expected further assaults to our reproductive autonomy.
Now is not the time to let our enthusiasm wane. We’ve elected good candidates. Now let’s help them pass good legislative policies.
